Seasonal School, the new catalogue with 23 interdisciplinary courses between September 2023 and July 2024. The programme is aimed at talented students who wish to immerse themselves in frontier research topics

Residential and interdisciplinary training courses of excellence, aimed at talented university students from all over the world. The new catalogue of the Seasonal Schools, promoted by the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna di Pisa, is now available, with a total of 23 courses scheduled between September 2023 and July 2024.

The Seasonal Schools have a duration of one week; they are held preferably in English and may be held on-site or online. Participants will be awarded a certificate of attendance at the end of the program after passing a final examination, with full recognition of the credits (CFU) indicated in each call.

They are open primarily to university students enrolled in Bachelor Degree, Masters’ Degree or Master's Diploma who have the same advancement characteristics as the School’s students. The participation of students registered in PhD courses is possible according to the rules indicated in each call.
Candidates eligible for admission are enrolled in an Italian or foreign university and must be on track relative to the examinations required by their educational institutions and with an average examination mark at least equal to 27/30 in the Italian system, or at least B in international system.
Access to Seasonal Schools requires a self-certified knowledge of the teaching language at or above B2 level if students are not mother tongue speakers.

"Research is the training ground for university students who want to deal with relevant issues in order to address the problems of our time," comments Rector Sabina Nuti. "In this perspective, the Seasonal Schools are innovative courses open to students from all Italian and foreign universities who are interested in making their university career an opportunity for personal growth and for the community.


Facilities and contributions

A reduction in the enrolment fee is available based on the applicant’s ISEE. A 450€ scholarship provided by Fondazione Talento all’Opera and Fondazione EY will be assigned to the three best performing participants of each course. Students coming from universities or institutions with specific agreements with Sant’Anna School are entitled to reserved places and to a 10% reduction in the enrolment costs.


The course programme from September to November 2023

The programme of Seasonal Schools scheduled from September to November 2023 is enriched with new courses, covering topics such as science communication, intensive sea and space exploration, planetary health, medical simulation and much more.

Applications are already open or will shortly be available on the School’s website, where you can also consult the detailed and updated agenda for each Seasonal School: COMINCIO - Come comunicare scienza e tecnologia (on site classes from September 4th to 8th); Exploring sea and space: technologies, opportunities and challenges (on site classes from September 18th to 22nd); PLANETHEALTH - A multidisciplinary approach to preventing and treating the effects of planetary health disruption on human health (on site classes from September 25th to 29th); MEDSKILL - Development of MEDical SKILLs by Simulation (on site classes from October 9th to 13th); WAT-CHANGE - Water-related ecosystem services for adapting societies to climate change (on site classes from October 16th to 20th); CESM - Circular Economy and Sustainability Management: Managing the transition towards a circular economy (on site classes from October 23rd to 27th) and lastly Issues on China - Innovation, Society and Culture (on site classes from November 20th to 24th).
The programme continues with courses in 2024. The topics range from different perspectives on the analysis of climate change to the management of innovation and the commons, from innovations in the system of representation to environmental sustainability, via perceptual robotics and artificial intelligence, gender studies, telecommunications between 5G and 6G.

Since the first edition began in October 2020, the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna has activated 38 Seasonal Schools that have hosted 477 students from over 100 different Italian and foreign universities.
